Fugitive Accused Of Killing Mt. Greenwood Man Nabbed By FBI In Minnesota

Shaqir Mustapha was on the run from the law for more than a year after the shooting death of Mount Greenwood resident Jeremy Ray.

CHICAGO, IL -- A man who was on the run from the law for more than a year in connection with the fatal shooting of a Mount Greenwood man last summer was arrested by FBI agents in Minnesota last week. Shaqir Mustapha, 20 was arrested by the FBI Minneapolis Violent Crimes Task force on Aug. 1 in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, FBI Chicago Media Coordinator Garrett Croon said.

Mustapha has been charged with homicide in connection to the June 10, 2016 killing of 27-year-old Jeremy H. Ray, who lived in Mount Greenwood according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Reports from 2016 indicate Ray was outside in the 8900 block of South Brandon in the city’s South Chicago neighborhood when two men got out of a car and walked up to him opening fire. Ray was struck repeatedly and pronounced dead soon after at Advocate Trinity Hospital.

Mustapha was taken into custody without incident, Croon said. He had been a fugitive since July of 2016, when a warrant for first-degree homicide was issued by the Chicago Police Department.

CPD asked the FBI for help in locating Mustapha, who is currently being held in the Hennepin County Jail in Minnesota.
