Indiana Fugitive Charged with Attempted Murder of Chicago Police Captain

Also, the captain has been released from Stroger Hospital.

An Indiana man has been charged with shooting a Chicago Police captain during an hours-long standoff in Englewood Tuesday.

Daniel Brown, 42, faces a slew of charges, including two counts of attempted murder, aggravated battery/discharge of a firearm, and fugitive from justice.

He is accused of shooting Capt. Edward Kulbida, 58, a highly decorated 30-year veteran who has served in the 7th District for many years. He sustained injuries to his shoulder and head incurred during the standoff in the 7200 block of South Lowe Avenue.

Brown was taken into custody Wednesday night around 11:30 p.m. He is also wanted in connection with three shootings and a carjacking in Indiana last weekend.

Kulbida has recently been released from the hospital and is recovering.

Brown is expected to appear in bond court Friday.
