Jazz Quartet To Play At Wild Blossom For Kellogg Fundraiser

CHICAGO, IL - A night of jazz music and mead will benefit programs at Kate Starr Kellogg School in North Beverly. “Jazzin’ At The Blossom” is planned from 7-10 p.m. on Friday, June 1 at Wild Blossom Meadery and Winery, 9030 S. Hermitage Ave. The event, the second of its kind organized by the non-profit Friends of Kellogg group, will feature live music from the Derrick Tate Connection jazz quartet and have an open bar that will include sweet and savory meads from the neighborhood's own meadery.

“We’ve been waiting for a year to enjoy live jazz in this beautiful setting,” said Tanika Pierre, president of Friends of Kellogg. “Last year’s Jazzin’ at the Blossom event was a great success, but this year’s is going to be even better because we booked a wonderful quartet."

Pierre called the jazz theme of the event fitting because music was brought back to the school just this year.

“The students love band and choir," she said. "Those kinds of opportunities happen thanks to events like this one.”

Chef Alvin Green will offer a tasting menu designed to pair with selected meads and wines from Wild Blossom for Jazzin’ At The Blossom. Produce grown in the Kellogg School garden will be part of the menu.

The event's venue, which sits at the edge of the Dan Ryan Woods just north of the 91st Street Metra station, is known for its mead. Mead is believed to be the oldest alcoholic beverage, made by fermenting honey with yeast.

"Wild Blossom’s brand new patio is open, so we’ll be taking in great music literally steps from the Dan Ryan Woods,” Pierre said.

Tickets are $60 Proceeds from the event will be used to support a Kellogg STEM lab. Buy them online here (preferred) or at the door the night of the event.
