Off-Duty CPD Officer Shot In Back During Bar Confrontation In Beverly: Police

Chicago police have confirmed that an off-duty officer was shot early Saturday morning during a bar confrontation in Beverly.

BEVERLY, IL — A 31-year-old off-duty Chicago police officer was shot in the back following an overnight confrontation with another man in Beverly, according to CPD News Affairs.

Chicago police confirmed the man was shot near the 2400 block of West 104th Street. The shooting happened around 2:30 a.m. Saturday, police said.

According to authorities, the victim got into a verbal fight with another man. Multiple shots were fired shortly after and the victim was struck once.

According to a statement by 19th Ward Alderman Matt O'Shea, the fight broke out at a local tavern. The suspect then retrieved a gun from a nearby vehicle.

"The Chicago Police Department (CPD) is investigating this incident and canvassing the area for video footage, but they need our help," O'Shea said. "CPD is looking for anyone who may have been in the area and seen something early this morning, and for video footage from private home or business camera systems. The victim was taken to Christ Medical Center, where he is in fair condition, police said.

No one is in custody, authorities said.
