Marist Hockey Club Donates To Special Rec Program
Members of the Marist Hockey Club presented a check for $1,000 to the Mt. Greenwood Special Recreation program.
CHICAGO, IL - The Marist High School hockey club donated $1,000 to the Mt. Greenwood Special Recreation program during their game against St. Viator at the Morgan Park Ice Arena on Saturday. The Marist team presented a check for the amount at the end of a day that was highlighted by players who volunteered during the Special Olympics Area South Snowshoe Regional Competition at Mt. Greenwood Park.
Special Olympian gold medal winning speed skater Tommy Shimoda, who learned to play several sports in the Mt. Greenwood program, was the ceremonial puck dropper before the game between Marist and St. Viator. All the Mt. Greenwood Special Recreation athletes, staff members and families were invited to the game and served pizza and pop by those with the club, Marist Hockey Club Vice President Dan McGuire said.
The check presentation, which occurred between the second and third periods of the game, was a surprise.
