Marist Taps New Coach To Head Girls Lacrosse Program

José Colón will head Marist High School's accomplished girls lacrosse program.

CHICAGO, IL – Marist High School has tapped a native New Yorker to head the girls lacrosse program. José Colón will take over as head coach of the school's girls' lacrosse program. Colon takes over an accomplished program at Marist. The team finished 10-6 last year and advanced to the sectional in the IHSA's inaugural playoffs.

Colón's career began at Jamaica High School in Queens, NY, where he was named team captain, most valuable player and was New York City's first high school All-American lacrosse player, earning him athlete of the year honors from his high school. Colón was fortunate to also play in the Empire Estate Games and was named to the North/South All-American team his senior year.

He later led Farmingdale Community College to a national championship. He was team MVP and received All-American honors and was named to the all-tournament team. Colón continued his college lacrosse career at the University of Massachusetts.

Colón has been an assistant coach at St. Ignatius College Prep and Brother Rice High School. At the latter he was named Illinois High School Assistant Coach of the Year and was the inaugural inductee into its lacrosse hall of fame. He has also coached youth programs at elite universities such as the University of Notre Dame and Northwestern University. He recently led the eighth grade Beverly Lacrosse team to its first Southland League Championship.
