Math Macs Turn In Solid Performance At State Math Contest

Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School's math team competes against 47 schools state math contest.

CHICAGO, IL -- Mother McAuley’s Math Macs traveled to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign on Saturday, May 6 for the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics High School Math Contest. They competed against 47 schools including Nazareth Academy, Marian Catholic, St. Francis and Lake Forest Academy in a multitude of competitions.

“Teams have limited time to answer very difficult questions and our students excelled under pressure,” said Mother McAuley mathematics department chair Andrew Reuland.

The freshmen team, which included Mary Russell ’20 (Morgan Park), Emily Webber ’20 (Morgan Park), Martina Maples ‘20 (Mount Greenwood), Molly Keller ’20 (Beverly) and Ann Marie Cleary ’20 (Beverly) earned 60 points and placed 23rd.

The Junior Team, which consisted of Catherine Rogers ’18 (Beverly), Grace Trippiedi ’18 (Orland Park), Kaleigh O’Hara ‘18 (Evergreen Park), Kali Foyle ‘18 (Worth), Emily Tonkovich ’18 (Dyer, IN) and Bridget Halleran ’18 (Evergreen Park) earned 64 points and placed 17th.

Kaleigh O’Hara ’18 and Lindsey Tryban ’17 ranked 10th among the two person teams.

Overall, the Math Macs placed 24th and earned 150 points at Math Contest.

Mother McAuley Liberal Arts Academy supports the Math Macs as just one way to act on their mission to encourage students to become interested in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) fields.
