Matt O'Shea Named President Of Special Olympics Chicago
19th Ward Ald. Matt O'Shea is the new president of Special Olympics Chicago.

CHICAGO, IL - 19th Ward Ald. Matt O'Shea is the new president of Special Olympics Chicago. O'Shea, whose been on the Special Olympics Chicago board of directors for three years, will replace Kevin Magnuson in the president role, according to a news release. Magnuson recently completed his two-year term as president and continued in the role on an interim basis as the organization celebrated its 50th anniversary last month.
O'Shea will be responsible for overseeing the operations, fundraising efforts and corporate sponsorships to support Special Olympics Chicago programs and event in this volunteer role. Other duties include increasing the awareness of the organization to the public, assisting in recruiting new athletes and growing the program in the Chicago Public Schools and Chicago Park District.

“I am truly honored to be appointed as president of this incredible organization that changes the lives of thousands of people with intellectual disabilities and their families, each and every day,” O’Shea said. “Special Olympics has been incredibly important to myself and my community over the last several decades. I have seen first-hand how the organization strives to provide memorable experiences for our athletes."

The second-term 19th Ward alderman is a longtime supporter of Special Olympics Chicago and has taken part in the Polar Plunge, the organization's largest yearly fundraiser, every year since it was introduced. He's also been a part of the Special Olympics Chicago Marathon team for several years.
