McAuley Names New Assistant Principal
Joffrey Bywater, M.A.Ed., will serve as for curriculum, instruction and technology for Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School.

CHICAGO, IL -- Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School has tapped a Chicago public charter school administrator to serve as assistant principal for curriculum, instruction and technology. His start date is July 10
Joffrey Bywater, M.A.Ed. Bywater will oversee the integration of instructional technology across the curriculum and within classroom instruction, in addition to directing the curriculum review, evaluation, and implementation process. He also will be responsible for the admissions and placement for incoming first-year students and current students.
Bywater will co-chair McAuley’s academic council, which is comprised of department chairpersons, and serve as a member of the school’s administrative leadership team with the principal, vice principal, dean of student support, and deans of upperclasswomen and underclasswomen.
“Mr. Bywater brings the skill set and experience necessary to help advance our curriculum and to ensure that each student is known and well served,” Principal, Eileen O’Reilly ’03 said in a news release. “He understands and values the benefits of single-gender education, and demonstrates knowledge of how best to support teachers in their work. Mr. Bywater joins McAuley at an exciting and pivotal time as we focus on making McAuley Future Ready and implement best academic practices for our 21st century learners and leaders.”
Bywater joins McAuley from Urban Prep Charter Academy, an all-boys’ public high school in Chicago. He served as assistant principal, overseeing academic counseling, testing, athletics, recruitment and enrollment. Bywater began his teaching career at Urban Prep in 2007, first as a teacher of World and U.S. History and later as curriculum consultant. In 2010 he advanced to the role of assistant principal.

Bywater graduated cum laude from Central Michigan University with a degree in secondary education. He then earned a master of arts degree in education leadership, summa cum laude, from Eastern Michigan University.
