McAuley Offers 'Parenting The iGen' Seminar In January
Mother McAuley partners with Smart Girl Society to host a seminar Jan. 10 offering new perspectives on how children use social media.

CHICAGO, IL – Mother McAuley High School has partnered with Smart Girl Society, Inc. to host a special seminar titled, “Parenting the iGen,” on Thursday, Jan. 10. This free event will take place in the McAuley auditorium beginning at 7 p.m. and is open to all parents and guardians, teachers and community members.
Founder and CEO of Smart Girl Society Amie Konwinski offers parents an in depth look, as well as a new perspective, on how their children are using social media. While the internet and social media can be extremely useful tools for young adults, teens and their parents, apps, instant messaging, chat rooms, texts, emails and social networking sites can be a source of anxiety and danger for children and their parents.
“Social media is still relatively new, and we’re still learning what long term effects it can have on a student's college and career aspirations,” said Julie Unold, counselor at Mother McAuley. “Amie will share tips and tools to help minimize negative experiences and maximize the positive opportunities that social media has to offer.”

Konwinski will speak with McAuley students during an assembly held earlier in day.
“SGS educates teens on how to be authentic, safe, kind, and private on social media,” Unold said. “Amie will teach students about how the use of specific terms and emojis helps brand their image and persona outside of social media, in the real world.”
