Mercy Residents, McAuley Students Add Thoughtful Gift For Pat's Pantry
Mercy Circle residents and Mother McAuley student council members make Thanksgiving more delicious for families served by Pat's Pantry.
CHICAGO — Mercy Circle residents and Mother McAuley student council members worked together to add a thoughtful gift for the Thanksgiving meal for families benefiting from Pat’s Pantry.
The intergenerational group, MACs with Mercy, filled Mason jars with the dry ingredients
for making cornbread and added a printed recipe in a pan and beautifully wrapped all 36 gifts.
When families pick-up groceries during Thanksgiving week, they also will receive fresh
ingredients for this holiday favorite.
Students from Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School meet monthly with residents at
neighboring Mercy Circle to complete a project as part of MACs with Mercy. Not only do they
do good, these gatherings also build connections and start friendships.

This school year, members of MACs with Mercy are donating what they create each month to Pat’s Pantry.
Pat’s Pantry was established in 2021 by Kathy Cavallone-Turney to honor the memory
of her son, Patrick Turney, who died in September 2019 at age 23. Because her son was
passionate about his friends and neighbors in the Mt. Greenwood neighborhood and beyond,
Cavallone-Turney and her volunteers now provide groceries each week to close to three dozen families at Mount Greenwood Community Church.
