Mighty Macs Hoist State and National Volleyball Championship Banners, Aug. 22

Join Mother McAuley for the hoisting of the championship banners on Aug. 22 in the season opener against Joliet Catholic.

CHICAGO, IL -- Community members are invited to Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School on Aug. 22, when the Mighty Macs will be raising the 2016 State and National Volleyball Championship banners. The Mighty Macs will also be celebrating Charley Niego ‘18 as the Gatorade Player of the Year, and Jen Rees DeJarald ‘87, the National Coach of the Year. The banners are scheduled to rise in the West Gym between the junior varsity and varsity games at 6 p.m.

The National Anthem will be sung by the great Jim Cornelison, best known for singing “The Star Spangled Banner” before Chicago Blackhawks games. The event also features performances by McAuley’s a cappella choir and the Brother Rice-Mother McAuley Marching Band.

Then stick around for the game when the Mighty Macs open the 2017 volleyball season against the Joliet Catholic Angels. The junior varsity set starts at 5 p.m., with the varsity game immediately following the banner raising around 6 p.m.

The celebration also features free raffles, including a Mighty Mac summer camp voucher, a jar of the famous McAuley cookies, McAuley gear and a volleyball signed by the 2016-2017 champions. Mother McAuley is located at 3737 W. 99th St., Chicago.
