Misericordia Pop Up Bakery, Gift Shop At BAC This Weekend

Misericordia will hold a pop up bakery and gift shop at the Beverly Arts Center from Dec. 21-23.

CHICAGO - Last minute Christmas shoppers in the Beverly/Morgan Park neighborhood and nearby will have an opportunity to help a beloved organization this year. The Misericordia Hearts & Flour Bakery and Heartstrings Gift Shop will open a pop up space at the Beverly Arts Center, 2407 W. 111th St. this weekend. The space will be open from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 21, Saturday, Dec. 22 and Sunday, Dec. 23.

Misericordia will sell items from its famous bakery as well as holiday items from its gift shop, according to a news release announcing the planned pop up. The proceeds will benefit the Misericordia Home of Mercy, which is home to more than 600 adults and children with intellectual and developmental disabilities on the city's North Side. The organization also offers residential placement, work opportunities and therapy and recreational programs.

Many of the Misericordia residents have been given work opportunities at the organization's Hearts & Flour Bakery, and the Heartstrings Gift Shop will feature artwork and notecards created and designed by residents.

The pop up space is brought to Beverly through a sponsorship partnership of 19th Ward Ald. Matt O'Shea and the BAC.

"This is a great opportunity to find a unique gift while giving back to an amazing organization," O'Shea said in an email to ward residents on Tuesday.

Sister Rosemary Connelly of Misericordia said the organization is "truly blessed" to have such support from the South Side.

“With so many families and friends from the South Side that continue to support the mission of Misericordia and our residents,” she said.
