Mom Thanks Community for Successful 'Emily Beazley Kures for Kids' Fair

Fair honoring late Mt. Greenwood girl's dream of starting foundation to raise money for pediatric cancer research raises over $65,000.

The family fun fair honoring the late Emily Beazley’s dream of starting a foundation that would raise money pediatric cancer research pulled in over $65,000.

The Emily Beazley’s Kures for Kids fair drew thousands of area residents on Sept. 20 to the campus of Chicago High School for the Agricultural Sciences. The 12-year-old Mt. Greenwood girl’s battle with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma garnered international attention. Emily passed away in May.

Emily’s mom, Nadia Lopez-Beazley, announced the final tally on the Kures for Kids Facebook page.

“We are still waiting on a few checks to come in, but so far the grand total of everything leading up to the fair and the day of is $65,000 +. That is not including the money in Emily Beazley’s Demand for a Cure.”

Lopez-Beazley told supporters that the family would be meeting soon with Dr. Jason Canner, a pediatric oncologist-hematologist at Advocate Christ Medical Center, to review current treatment trials.

There are so many people to thank, I really hope that we don’t forget anyone. First and foremost, I would like to thank the Kures for Kids team. You know who you are. They put in many, many hours and helped make this event happen in such a short amount of time. I could never say thank you enough for everything that you guys did. You loved my girl so much and are so dedicated to making her dream come true. Thank you. I love you all.

Thank you to all the volunteers, vendors, security, people who donated, sponsors, The Ag school, Dino Jump Western Suburbs Inc., Stash and his carnival games, Father McFarland for your beautiful memorial, Joannie the DJ, Raise Your Glass and The Boy Band Night for your great music, Erin Yanz for your animals, Craig Nelson the magician, Michael Tarczan for bringing your beautiful car up, the face painters, All Smile Photo Booths for your great pictures, and the Food vendors for your delicious food and donating 25 percent of all your profits back to us.

Last, but certainly not least, all the people who came and supported us. Without you all, this would not have been what it was. You made our first event amazing. We loved meeting you, and wish we could have met more of you. With your support, we are hoping to raise awareness and make a difference in childhood cancer research.
