Morgan Park House Fire Now a Homicide Investigation

Police say fire was intentionally set. Man found dead in home died from gunshot wound to the head.

A house fire in Morgan Park is now a homicide investigation after a man was found dead inside of the charred home from an apparent gunshot wound to the head, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office said.

Firefighters responded to a house fire and explosion in the 10800 block of South Morgan around 12:43 a.m. Monday. Neighbors reported hearing a loud explosion and then seeing the one-story home engulfed in flames.

Investigators have now determined that the home was intentionally set on fire. Police are now looking for the homeowner’s car.

The missing vehicle is a 2004 Buick LeSabre. The car has four doors and is black in color, with Illinois license plate V617710.

Neighbors told news media that the owner of the home is a retired Chicago streets and sanitation worker.

The man has not yet been positively identified because the body is badly burned, ABC 7 Chicago reported.
