Morgan Park Man Charged In Sexual Assault At Library

Police say Damond Hampton sexually assaulted an 11-year-old girl at the Walker branch of the Chicago Public Library on Monday.

CHICAGO — Police have a man in custody in connection with the sexual assault of an 11-year-old girl at the Chicago Public Library's Walker branch in Morgan Park on Monday. Damond Hampton, 25, of the 10700 block of South Hale Avenue has been charged with three felony counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a victim under 13 years old, police said on Wednesday.

Previous reports indicate the victim was sexually assaulted in a room at the library around 4 p.m. on Monday when her mother stepped away for a moment and a man came into the room and started talking to her. RELATED: 11-Year Old Sexually Assaulted At Chicago Public Library

Police say Hampton was "positively identified" as the man who sexually assaulted the victim about an hour after the incident. He was found just a block away from the library, according to police.

Hampton is set to appear in bond court at 26th and California on Wednesday.
