“Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” tells the story of Wonka’s quest to find an heir to his magical chocolate factory. In the musical, we meet Charlie, who, along with four other children, wins a golden ticket to tour the chocolate factory with his grandfather.
“Suessical the Musical” is based on some of Dr. Suess’ most famous books including “Miss Gertude McFuzz”, “Horton Hears a Who!” and “Horton Hatches the Egg.” Narrated by the Cat in the Hat, the story follows Horton the elephant, who discovers a speck of dust containing the Whos. Horton feels it is his duty to not only protect the Whos, but also guard an abandoned egg left by Mayzie La Bird.
McAuley’s Curtain Call Theater and Music Camp, which is open to both girls and boys in kindergarten through ninth grade, allows students to explore different areas of the performing arts, including acting, dancing, and singing. The campers not only perform in the two shows but help in the production by building various pieces of the set and props. Both shows are under the direction of McAuley alumnae and faculty members Carrie Alifantis ’87 and Julie McKee ’93. Many of the Curtain Call instructors also are former McAuley music and theatre alumnae who are now out working in the performing arts fields.
