CHICAGO - A Mount Carmel High School alum will return to the school to serve as its next principal. Scott Tabernacki, who graduated from Mount Carmel in 2002, will start in the new role on July and replace John Haggerty, who will retire as principal after two years in the role and 33 at the school altogether.

Tabernacki most recently served as the principal at St. John the Baptist School in Whiting, Indiana and has also held administrative roles at St. Rita of Cascia and Holy Trinity high schools.

"I am excited and thankful for this opportunity. It is an incredible honor to be named the Principal of Mount Carmel High School. I look forward to working with the faculty and staff, students and their families." Tabernacki said.

Although he is retiring as principal, Haggerty will remain at the school as an AP English Literature teacher. He had high praise for Tabernacki.

"I had the privilege of teaching Scott when he was a Mount Carmel student and have always respected his career in Catholic education; he is an educator and administrator who lives the Caravan values that we instill in our students," Haggerty said.
