MPA WYSE Team Excels Against Schools 10 Times Larger

The Morgan Park Academy WYSE team easily won a tournament against schools their own size and fared successful against larger ones as well.

CHICAGO, IL - Fourteen Morgan Park Academy students have advanced to the WYSE sectional round as the team fared well against schools up to ten times larger. The Warriors WYSE team easily won the Division 300 regional tournament against schools the same size at the University of Saint Francis earlier this month and placed third in a larger category that included schools with up to 1,500 students.

Seniors Amy Hu, Grace Lei, Leo Luo, Katarina Stanley, Hyuna Wei, Adam Wu, and Ian Yan; juniors Murphy Chen, Ethan Deng, Tony Tang, Will Wei, and William Zhang; sophomore Olga Mourgelas; and freshman Oscar Zhang all advanced to the sectional round as individuals.

Medalists from MPA at the regional were Ethan Deng (3rd in physics), Leo Luo (3rd in biology), Grace Lei (3rd in chemistry), Olga Mourgelas (3rd in biology), Tony Tang (1st in physics), Adam Wu (2nd in physics, 3rd in engineering physics) and Ian Yan (1st in engineering graphics, 3rd in computer science).

In WYSE (Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering), students compete in biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering graphics, English, math, and physics.
