The 19th Ward is home to hundreds of Special Olympics athletes. Special Olympics Chicago provides year-round activities and events for over 7,500 individuals with intellectual disabilities. The organization also provides funding for programs which are operated through the Chicago Public Schools and Chicago Park District, as well as agencies that service individuals with intellectual disabilities. Over 75% of SOC athletes and their families are at or below the poverty line, therefore all costs associated with Special Olympics programs are paid for from within the organization.
The 19th Ward Youth & Community Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that supports and hosts a wide variety of safe, healthy, educational youth activities for children in Beverly, Morgan Park and Mount Greenwood.
