New Artwork Unveiled On 99th Street

Some have referred to the newly installed work of art near the 99th Street Metra station as the "Beverly Bean."

CHICAGO, IL - There's a noticeable addition to the 99th Street business corridor in Beverly, a place many see as a natural entrance to the neighborhood. Unveiled on Saturday was "Quantum Me," a work of art by Chicago-based artist Davis McCarty.

Its installation was a project of the Beverly Area Arts Alliance. It’s part of the 50x50 Neighborhood Arts Project program led by the city of Chicago and the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events.

Several neighborhood residents gathered at its unveiling for a mini-festival of sorts to celebrate the artwork that's right across the street from the 99th Street - Beverly Hills Metra Rock Island station and just west of the tracks.

"It looks like the bean," one young neighborhood resident shouted during a Beverly-Mt. Greenwood Patch Facebook Live video.

Others referred to it as "The Beverly Bean," apparently in reference to the circular mirror "Quantum Me" and "Cloud Gate" in Millennium Park have in common.
