“In all homicides, official identification must be done visually by next-of-kin or by scientific means,” such as fingerprint matches or dental records,” the Cook County Medical Examiner said in a news release.

Relatives identified the six family members as Rosa Hernandez and Noe Martinez, who were in their 60s; their adult son and daughter, Noe. Jr. and Herminia; and Herminia’s two young sons, Alexis and Leonardo.

Police believe the bodies were there at least two days before being discovered during a wellness check on Thursday. The find is being investigated as a homicide.

The medical examiner said in a news release that no additional information would be provided pending the ongoing homicide investigation.
