PETA Billboard At 103rd And Kedzie Gets Applause, Jeers, Snark

"The comments are funny": Community reacts to a giant billboard urging people do ditch dairy products and "go vegan."

CHICAGO, IL -- A new billboard near the corner of 103rd and Kedzie that urges people to "dump dairy" and "go vegan" has caused quite a stir with those who live near the massive sign that went up just days ago. The billboard, sponsored by PETA, features a photo of a cow and in huge letters, "Do I look like your mother?" It continues to read: "Cow's milk is for calves. Dump dairy. Go vegan."

Beverly-Mt. Greenwood Patch shared a photo of the billboard and its message with our nearly 12,000 Facebook followers, and the comments rolled in from all angles.

Many were light-hearted and humorous, others backed the billboard and some were skeptical of why it was placed where it was.

"I got the Pop's double beef dipped with sweet peppers, fries and a big glass of milk," read the top rated comment. "Nice sign, though."

Another noted that he saw the billboard just before ordering a double hamburger from Pop's, which is just south of the advertisement's placement.

While no one from PETA jumped into the conversation after the organization was tagged in the post, the location of the sign is interesting. It's within short walking distance of not only Pop's, but McDonald's and Popeye's as well.

But some comments went into great detail about how much they like the billboard.

"Love it!," one woman wrote. "You can get (angry) about it because it makes you feel guilty, but it's the truth, nonetheless."

"The sign is great," another wrote. "Cow milk is for baby cows, not for humans."

Others rolled their social media eyes at it.

"Where is the facepalm emoji?" one wrote, while another just said that the billboard is "pretty stupid."

Someone suggested it might get a better reception in the "yuppieville north side" with "the tree huggers."

The wit was brought through memes, GIFs and several references to another PETA acronym that isn't "People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals."

"Oh my Lord. The comments are funny," one pointed out.

While it will be impossible for everyone in any neighborhood to come to an agreement on this discussion, the PETA billboard is surely turning more heads than the one it replaced: a giant picture of former Chicago Bears Head Coach Lovie Smith who coaches the football team at the University of Illinois and the slogan "We will win."
