Photo Gallery: St. Xavier Cougar 5K/Walk from Homecoming

Several students and community members took part in the 19th annual St. Xavier Cougar 5K Run/Walk

St. Xavier University’s (SXU) 17th annual Cougar 5K Run/Walk was held on Saturday, September 28th. The race is a south side tradition. Besides students, the 5K/Walk is a prelude to the Chicago Marathon for some of the runners.

The Cougar5K race started behind the Warde Academic Center.

Runners and walkers took a paved course through Evergreen Park, the course began and ended at Saint Xavier University's campus.

After the race, all activities were held inside the Shannon Center due to the rain. The Cougar 5K sponsored a fair, refreshment area for race finishers, free sponsor samples, free blood pressure check for participants, there were free kids activities, giant raffle and families and runners that took their picture with Champ, the SXU Cougar mascot.

Free flu shots on-site (with insurance card) was also provided by the Saint Xavier University Health Center near the finish line.

The top three female runners were, in first Jane Bareikis, who broke the female overall record with a time of 17:28. In second for female was Emily Paull and in third Calista Stefaniak.

Top male runner in was Isiah with a time of 17:37. Second male was Alan Guzman and third place Abel Hernandez. The top three males and females in each age category received medals and a plaque sponsored by the SXU Alumni Association.
