Police Investigate Br. Rice Locker Room Burglary During Crete Football Game

CRETE, IL -- Crete police continue to investigate the theft of items from the visitor team locker room during the Crete-Monee and Brother Rice football game last Friday. Several Brother Rice football players reported the theft of smartphones and headphones from their backpacks. The backpacks were in the visitor team locker room while the Brother Rice football team was on the playing field, according to a Crete police news release.

Officers responded to Crete-Monet High School at 1515 W. Exchange St. in Crete, around 10:42 p.m. Sept. 1. An assistant coach advised that six Brother Rice football players reported their iPhones were stolen, along with two wireless Beats headphones. The Brother Rice coach told police that he believed more items were stolen from his players, but did not have a list at the time. Several Brother Rice players were said to have stayed after the game to file police reports. Officers encouraged the coach to provide a list of stolen property and to have all victims report to the Crete Police Department.

As of Tuesday, the Br. Rice coaching staff said they were still compiling a list of stolen property, but had not yet provided it to police. Up to 38 cell phones, dozens of keys and wallets with personal information were reportedly stolen, although police did not have the exact number of pilfered items.
