Police Report Uptick in Street Robberies

Six armed robberies were reported in Morgan Park and Washington Heights.

Robbers held up men at gunpoint who were walking alone in east Morgan Park last month.

Morgan Park 22nd District Police said that two to three unknown male offenders approached the men and displayed a handgun. The robberies happened between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m.

  • 1524 W. 115th St., March 8
  • 11418 S. Ada, March 14
  • 11359 S. Ada, March 22
  • 1329 W. 114th Place, March 22

The reported robbers were described as to police as male African-Americans, between the ages of 20 and 30. They were about six feet tall and weighed between 150 to 175 pounds. The men wore hooded sweatshirts and were armed with a handgun.

Police also warned of two robberies in Washington Heights at 1257 W. 97th St. on March 5; and 9700 S. Winston on April 1. The robberies happened between 3 and 6 p.m.

In those incidents, the robbers approached lone males and either implied or displayed a handgun. The robbers were described as African-American males between the ages of 20 and 25, around 5 feet, 10 inches tall, and weighing between 130 and 150 pounds, wearing hooded sweatshirts. One of the men had a dreadlocks.
