Police Warn of Outbreak of Apartment Burglaries

Six recent burglaries reported in Beverly, 22nd District Police say.

CHICAGO, IL -- Police are warning of an uptick in apartment burglaries, with six reported between July 11 and Aug. 6. All of the incidents happened in the Beverly neighborhood on Beat 2212.

According to 22nd District police, the unknown burglar uses a pry tool to force open the front door. Once inside, the burglar steals the victim’s property. The burglar has been targeting buildings located between 10300 to 10700 blocks of Wood-Longwood.

  • 10300 block of Hale, July 11
  • 10600 block of Walden Parkway, July 27
  • 10400 block of Walk of Walden Parkway, July 30
  • 1800 block of West 104th Street, Aug. 6
  • 1800 block of West 105th Street (two apartments)

22nd District police offer the following safety tips to keep your home safe from burglars:

  • Secure all windows and doors to your residence.
  • Ensure apartment main entry doors are locked and secure.
  • Do not allow entry, or buzz in, to your apartment building any strangers.
  • Consider the installation of an alarm or surveillance system.
  • Keep gates locked and yard fences secure.
  • Keep a record of serial numbers for your electronics.
  • Keep a photographic record or jewelry items.
  • Notify a neighbor, friend, or relative, if you are planning to be out of town
  • Be aware of this situation and alert neighbors in the area about this crime.
  • Call 911 immediately and provide a detailed description of any suspicious people including any vehicle description and license plate information.

Ald. Matt O’Shea (19th) encourages residents to call 911 if they see something suspicious in their neighborhood.
