Rainbow Cone Opens For Season This Week
The Original Rainbow Cone, the iconic ice cream parlor at 92nd and Western, will open for the season this week.

CHICAGO, IL - A Chicago institution. The most recognizable landmark in Beverly? Maybe so.
The Original Rainbow Cone, the iconic ice cream stop that's been at 92nd and Western for nearly a century, will open for its 2018 season on Friday, March 2. Rainbow Cone announced the news recently on its Facebook page. The legendary place will open at noon that day, so be prepared to wait in line if you want to be among the first served in 2018.
Rainbow Cone has been at 9233 S. Western Ave. since the 1920s, when it was the only structure in a mostly undeveloped area on Chicago's Southwest Side. Now, that same building is surrounded by a neighborhood of homes and retail stores. For years, the ice cream destination was across the street from open space and a golf course before big-box stores began making up a retail area in Evergreen Park about a decade ago.

Every year, the opening of Rainbow Cone is a special time. But this year's celebration will be unique in that its the 92nd year for the place that's long made the corner of 92nd Street and Western known as an ice cream stop. Green T-shirts, noting that its the "92nd on 92nd," have been made and will be given out to the first 60 customers on Friday.
High school students looking for summer jobs are encouraged to apply to work at Rainbow Cone. Find the job application here.
