Homer, Beloved Hurricane Harvey Dog, Crosses Rainbow Bridge
A Houston-area dog taken in by P.A.W.S. Tinley Park lost his battle with cancer.

TINLEY PARK, IL -- Homer, a beloved dog brought in by P.A.W.S. Tinley Park last month from a Houston-area shelter after Hurricane Harvey hit, lost his battle with cancer on Tuesday. Those at the shelter were heartbroken to share the news with those following Homer's journey.
"This is a post we were hoping we had longer to make," P.A.W.S. wrote on Facebook on Tuesday.
Homer was previously referred to as "the Texas dog that stole our hearts." But shortly after his arrival at the Tinley Park shelter, he was diagnosed with terminal bladder cancer.

But his last few weeks on earth were happy ones. Homer was adopted by a loving family and got to tour the bases at Guaranteed Rate Field, go on a Chicago boat cruise and attended a picnic where he "ate all the cheeseburgers he wanted," P.A.W.S. wrote.
"He touched the hearts of every person he met."

Homer was one of several dogs to be transported from Houston-area shelters to P.A.W.S. Tinley Park in the wake of Hurricane Harvey so shelters in that region would be able to take in pets that were displaced from hurricane ravaged homes.
