Voting Opens In 'Event Of The Year' Semifinals
It's down to the South Side Irish Parade, Papa Hops Softball Tournament, Beverly Breast Cancer Walk and Beverly Hills Cycling Classic.

CHICAGO - Voting is now open in the second round of the Beverly-Mt. Greenwood Patch "Event of the Year" competition. The semifinal round pits No. 1 seed South Side Irish Parade against No. 5 Papa Hops 16'' Softball Tournament and No. 3 Beverly Breast Cancer Walk against No. 7 Beverly Hills Cycling Classic/Bikes & Brews.
Vote by finding the tweets below on the @BeverlyMTGPatch Twitter account. The tweets were posted around 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 7 and voting will remain open until 5 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 8.

Hundreds of Twitter users helped decide the first round of the competition, a bracket-style tournament seeking to find the most popular yearly event held in Beverly, Mount Greenwood or Morgan Park. After a 24-hour voting period from Monday afternoon until Tuesday afternoon, eight possibilities were widdled down to four.

And we had some interesting results, with two of the top four seeds already out of the running after round one.
First, we saw the top-seeded South Side Irish Parade coast to a victory over No. 8 seeded Y-Me Softball Tournament, 86% to 14%. 201 votes were cast in this poll.

The No. 3 seeded Beverly Breast Cancer Walk was another strong winner, getting 77% of the vote to No. 6 seeded Ridge Run/Memorial Day Parade, which had 23%. 158 votes were cast in this poll.

We saw a significant upset in the first round, with the No. 7 seed Beverly Hills Cycling Classic/Bikes & Brews event getting 53% to the No. 2 seed Beverly Art Walk's 47%. 150 votes were cast in this poll.

But the strongest showing in the first round came from the No. 5 seed Papa Hops 16'' Softball Tournament, which brought out the numbers with 89% of the votes cast. The No. 4 seed BAPA Home Tour got 11% of the 386 votes cast in the most shared first-round match-up by far.
