BEVERLY, IL — Beverly’s Smith Village and Smith Senior Living celebrated a $23 million dollar modernization project completed three months early. Trustees and staff of the senior living facility met with elected officials Wednesday for a ribbon cutting of the upgraded Johanson Wing.

The renovation of the Johanson Wing includes private suites for short-term rehab patients, along with private rooms for skilled nursing care residents. For more private rooms, Smith Village reduced its number of licensed beds from 100 to 78, and added a three-story, 10,204-square-foot tower at the south end of the building. The tower contains a therapy gym on the first floor and dining rooms on the second and third floors. The renovation also included a new roof, and new electrical and HVAC systems.

It is part of a larger $74 million renovation that started in 2006 that aimed to create “a contemporary community offering assisted living, memory care, rehab and skilled nursing care residences, services, and programs.”
