Special Olympics Chicago Challenges Grammar Schools To Take Part in Midway 5K
Grammar school students can sign up to run with the planes in the Midway 5K Run and Walk for Special Olympics Chicago, Sept. 17.

CHICAGO, IL -- Special Olympics Chicago invites local grammar schools to take part in the Midway Fly Away 5K Walk and Run, as part of the “Midway School Challenge”. The race, which will take place Sunday, Sept. 17 at Chicago Midway International Airport, will benefit the 7,500 athletes of Special Olympics Chicago.
Local grammar school students who sign up for the 5K will receive discounted admission of $20 per person (ages 14 and under), as well as complimentary bus transportation to the Midway Fly Away 5K Walk and Run, for schools with teams of 40 or more. Parents and family members are welcome to join in on the fun. Race registration for participants over the age of 14 is $40. The school that has the largest team will be awarded a trophy and pizza party for participating members.
Grammar school children, aged 10 and under, are also welcome to participate in “The Midway Miler”. Registered participants will receive a souvenir race t-shirt, post-race refreshments and free parking in the Midway Airport Economy Parking lot, located across the street from the Southwest Airlines Hangar, at 5050 West 55th Street.
The Midway Fly Away 5K Walk and Run is one of the most exciting and unique 5k races in the city, with participants having the opportunity to walk or run directly on the airfield of Midway airport, complete with the city skyline and jumbo jets taking off and landing as their backdrop. Now in its fifth annual year, runners and walkers of all fitness levels are invited to participate.
Registration is now open by visiting Special Olympics Chicago. The Midway Fly Away 5K Walk and Run is generously sponsored by Southwest Airlines and the Chicago Department of Transportation.
