SXU Art Gallery presents Jim Eichorst's "Stories of Stuff"

Unveiling the first art exhibit of the 2015 - 2016 academic year.

Saint Xavier University’s (SXU) Art Gallery presents “Stories of Stuff” exhibit by Jim Eichorst from Monday, Aug. 24 to Tuesday, Sept. 15 in the SXU Gallery on the Chicago Campus, 3700 W. 103rd St. In an effort to introduce the artist to the community, there will also be an artist’s presentation and reception on Wednesday, Sept. 2 at 3:30 p.m.

A longtime resident of North Riverside, Ill., Eichorst has worked in many different media over the years. Included among these are graphics, leatherwork, video, stained glass, and jewelry. He has had his work featured at the Museum of Science and Industry, Fulton Street Collective and three solo shows at the Riverside, Ill. Library. Currently, Eichorst creates sculptures by recycling found objects, primarily out of metal.

“There is an underlying language in the design of the things that surround us,” Eichorst said. “This allows us to form new structures and tell new stories when we manipulate or juxtapose them to each other. What’s fun for me is to try to find some personality or create a narrative from a pile of inanimate objects. Something familiar that transforms when placed in a new light.”
