SXU Women's Basketball Ranked No. 2 In Nation
Saint Xavier University has the second best team in the NAIA Division II, according to a preseason coaches poll.
CHICAGO, IL - The Saint Xavier University Women's Basketball team is among the highest ranked teams in the nation heading into the 2017-18 season. The Cougars, who are coming off a 34-3 season and an appearance in the NAIA Division II National Championship game, are ranked No. 2 in the coaches' preseason poll heading into this weekend's season opening tilt.
SXU received one first place vote and were 10 points shy of Marian University, Indiana in the poll, according to a news release from SXU Athletics. The Cougars lost to Marian in the national championship game last year.
The Cougars have never been ranked as high as No. 2 to start the season. The team returns three seniors from its 2016-17 squad that became the first in school history to reach the Final Four.
