Taser Used To Stop Fleeing Suspect In North Beverly
Police say Gregory Donner was climbing over fences and running through backyards at 90th and Hoyne before they arrested him Monday night.
CHICAGO (BEVERLY) — Chicago police said they used a taser to successfully stop a fleeing suspect who was climbing over fences and through yards in the North Beverly neighborhood Monday night. Gregory Donner, 47, who lives just east of the neighborhood in the 1700 block of West 95th Street, was charged with resisting/obstructing a peace officer, criminal trespass to land and on a warrant shortly after police responded to the 9000 block of South Hoyne Avenue at 6:26 p.m. on Jan. 6.
Police said a 64-year-old woman told them she saw a man enter her yard and flee southbound by climbing over fences in neighboring yards on the block. After Donner was found, multiple officers began a foot pursuit when Donner continued running while holding his waistband and carrying something they did not recognize in his other hand, according to police.
That's when they used the taser, which police said was successful in helping them make the arrest.

"No marks were observed on the offender's skin and he declined medical treatment," police said in a statement.
19th Ward Ald. Matt O'Shea said in an email to residents that Donner was on parole for a previous burglary conviction and had burglary tools on him at the time of his arrest.

Between Dec. 16 and Jan. 2 four garage burglaries were reported in that same area of North Beverly, with two occurring in the 9200 block of South Winchester Avenue, one in the 9000 block of South Damen Avenue and another in the 8900 block of South Hoyne Avenue.
However, police did not indicate any charges against Donner in connection with those specific incidents. All the charges he faces from Monday night are misdemeanors, police said.
"Moving forward, I intend to work closely with the Cook County State's Attorney's Office to ensure our community has a voice in this prosecution," O'Shea said. "I've also notified the Illinois State Department of Corrections as this incident may constitute a violation of the terms of Mr. Donner's parole."
