Thieves Hit Unlocked Vehicles in Beverly

Cops warn of thieves testing door handles and stealing from unlocked vehicles. Five thefts reported in June.

Chicago, IL -- Morgan Park 22nd District Police are warning Beverly residents of burglars walking the streets during the early morning pulling on car door handles, looking for unlocked vehicles, then stealing property inside..

Five unlocked vehicles have reportedly been burglarized in June, including:

  • 10300 block of Walden Parkway
  • 9800 block of Bell
  • 10000 block of Bell
  • 10100 block of Leavitt
  • 10500 block of Oakley

To avoid becoming the victim of an “un-breakin,” CPD offers the following tips:

  • Always lock your car.
  • Do not keep anything of value in your vehicle that can be viewed from the outside, especially portable GPS devices, phone chargers, change, briefcases and purses.
  • Park your car in a secure garage or well-lit area.
  • Consider installing an audible alarm in your car.
  • Beware of these incidents and alert your neighbors.
  • Call 911 immediately and provide a detailed description any suspicious people, including vehicles and licence plate information.
