Thousands Raised In GoFundMe To Help Local Cancer Patient
Grant Bahr was diagnosed with Large B-Cell, Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma last month.

CHICAGO, IL — A member of a Chicago Police Department family has been undergoing chemo treatments for the last few months after he fell ill and was diagnosed with cancer. In early April, doctors diagnosed Grant Bahr with Large B-Cell, Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. The cancer has created a hole in the 21-year-old Beverly-Mt. Greenwood area resident's esophagus and has made it extremely difficult for him to talk and breathe.
Friends and family of Bahr, a St. Laurence High School and St. Cajetan School alum whose father was a member of the Chicago Police Department and whose brother is a current Chicago police officer, have created a GoFundMe page to help pay for his medical costs. Bahr's mother, Lisa, has not been able to work since she has to help her son with everyday tasks due to the cancer and as a single-mother that has become even more difficult.
"Due to extreme weight loss and low oxygen levels, Grant is unable to care for himself even in the comfort of his own home," the GoFundMe, named 'Kick Grant's Cancer,' states. "Even the walk from his bed to the bathroom is exhausting."

Before falling ill with what was originally thought to be pneumonia in the winter, Bahr was attending college and working at a local paint shop.
Now, just months later, he's undergoing chemo at the hospital for 24 hours a day, 5 days a week. When doctors eventually noticed the cancer, multiple scans showed he had a large tumor located in the center of his chest cavity and that one lung had been completely deflated.

Michael Kennedy, Bahr's brother-in-law and the creator of the GoFundMe that has raised more than $16,000 in just two days, said the funds raised will pay for a variety of expenses including medical bills, a cell phone bill, gas to and from the hospital, feeding tube supplies, medical products "and just general costs to ensure that Grant always has a house to come home to after his hospital stays."
