Tuesday 'Tea' At Ellie's Cafe Will Support Separated Children

CHICAGO, IL - Ellie's Cafe in Beverly/Morgan Park will welcome a special guest for a brunch-time get-together on Tuesday. Deacon Daryce from St. Helena's Episcopal Church in Burr Ridge will lead a talk about her recent visit to California, where she went to a workshop that included a speaker from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement about how conditions are for children who have been separated from their parents as part of the recent zero-tolerance immigration edict.

Deacon Daryce will be the first speaker in what could become numerous "tea" events held at the cafe located at 10701 S. Hale Ave. in the coming weeks and months, Ellie's Cafe Owner Cathy Stacey said.

"Daryce will give us an idea of what is actually going on and see if there is anything we can do as a community to help," Stacey said. "It will be good to get her point of view on this."

Daryce's talk will be part of a "tea" event, set from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, July 17. It's a $20 donation for a fare that will include full sandwiches, desserts and tea. Any profits made will go toward Daryce's cause to help the children that have been separated from their parents.

"We hear talk of the immigration issue, seeing these children in the condition they are in and they were in tears," Stacey said.
