CHICAGO, IL - The Chicago police officer who was shot in the hand Wednesday night during a foot pursuit of a suspect near 95th and Calumet is a 5-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department from Morgan Park, the Beverly Review reports. The officer has not been identified by Chicago police, but indications are that he is expected to make a full recovery.

Chicago Police Department Superintendent Eddie Johnson said the officer's "spirits are good" one day after the shooting.

Anthony Woodridge, a 25-year-old convicted felon who was on parole, has been charged with attempted murder in connection with the shooting of the officer. During a foot pursuit, Woodridge is accused of turning "in the direction of the officers and discharged a weapon striking an officer in the hand and the back."
