22 Graduates Receive Bi-literacy Commendations
Students hail from Bolingbrook and Romeoville High School.

The Valley View School District 365U Board of Education Monday night honored 22 members of the Class of 2015 who received Seal of Bi-literacy commendations from the State of Illinois for their proficiency in multiple languages.
Those recognized for their English and Spanish proficiency from Bolingbrook High School included Kelsey Wahlgren, Cynthia Silva, Lissette Puente, Selena Nambo, Banelly Mora Perez, Daniela Jimenez and Jovani Enriquez. Esmeralda Barajas was recognized for English, Spanish and French. Ian Asbury was recognized for English and French.

All of Romeoville High School’s honorees involved English and Spanish proficiency. They were Ana Perez, Armando Cortez, Melisa Alvarado, Dana Balcazar, Perla Gutierrez, Jose Barraza, Jacqueline Hernandez, James Zahorick, Maya Bautista, Mireya Casas, McDavis Ansere, Jose Vazquez and Ashley Comeau.
Recognizing that proficiency in multiple languages is critical in enabling Illinois to participate effectively in a global political, social, and economic context, state officials created the Seal of Biliteracy program to promote linguistic proficiency and cultural literacy among high school students.
