Murder Charges For 17-Year-Old After Bolingbrook Home Invasion

BOLINGBROOK, IL — Three people, including a man and two juvenile girls, are dead, and a woman is hospitalized after a home invasion in Bolingbrook on Sunday, Bolingbrook Police said in a news release.

Police have charged 17-year-old Byrion Montgomery, of Bolingbrook, with nine counts of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, home invasion, aggravated battery with a firearm and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, in connection with Sunday's home invasion.

Police identified those who were killed as 40-year-old Cartez Daniels, 17-year-old Samiya Shelton-Tillman and a second juvenile girl who has yet to be positively identified. A criminal complaint from the Will County State's Attorney identified her as Sanai Daniels. Her age was not provided.

Officers responded to the 100 block of Lee Lane at 8:15 p.m. Sunday for a "domestic-related home invasion," police said. Officers arrived and found that two adults and two juveniles had been shot.

The man and the 17-year-old girl were pronounced dead. A woman, 34, was taken to a hospital and is in stable condition. The other juvenile girl was taken to a hospital and later died of her injuries, police said.

A criminal complaint from the Will County State's Attorney identified the girl as Sanai Daniels. Her age was not provided.

A 3-year-old boy and a 14-year-old boy were also inside the home at the time of the shooting and were unharmed, police said.

Police said the suspect, now identified as Montgomery, was quickly determined, and he was found near his home in the 200 block of Waterman Drive at 10 p.m. Sunday. He was taken into custody, and police said all indications are that he was the sole shooter. Montgomery was in a dating relationship with the 17-year-old victim, police said.

Montgomery's bail has been set at $20 million.

Three counts of first-degree murder pertain to Cartez Daniels, who was shot and stabbed, according to the criminal complaint from the Will County State's Attorney's Office.

Three counts of first-degree murder each also pertain to Samiya Shelton-Tillman and Sanai Daniels.

The Bolingbrook Police Department said it is working with the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office on formal charges.
