BOLINGBROOK, IL — The Bolingbrook IKEA store will close its doors on Boughton Road in late 2027 and move to Naperville, IKEA announced on Tuesday.
The retailer said this move is "part of our efforts to meet customers where they are."
The store will move to the Block 59 shopping center in Naperville and will open in late 2027.
"This relocation reflects how our customers are increasingly living, working and shopping across the broader Bolingbrook-Naperville corridor," IKEA said in a news release. "By moving the shopping experience to a small format store in Naperville, we are positioning IKEA closer to growing population centers and a popular shopping district while maintaining strong accessibility for existing Bolingbrook customers."
The Naperville location at Westridge Court and Block 59 will be located eight miles away from the current Bolingbrook store.
The new Naperville location will also include a Swedish Food Market and Swedish Deli.
Patch has reached out to the Village of Bolingbrook for comment. The 317,000-square-foot Bolingbrook store first opened in 2005.
The future Naperville location won't be the Swedish furniture retailer's first smaller store in the Chicago area. In February, IKEA announced it will open a 66,000-square-foot store in Gurnee, saying it will be smaller than its Schaumburg and Bolingbrook locations. It will open in a portion of the former Sears store at Gurnee Mills.
According to a site plan for the Naperville Block 59 store, the new 97,079-square-foot store will move into space previously occupied by Going, Going, Gone, Discovery Clothing Co. and Ulta Beauty, Naperville Community Television 17 reported.
