Attempted Murder Charges For Bolingbrook Man After Officer Shot: Police
The officer was released from the hospital on Tuesday, and will continue to recover at home, police said.

BOLINGBROOK, IL — A 24-year-old Bolingbrook man, Victor Zarate, is facing two counts of attempted first-degree murder in connection with the shooting of a Bolingbrook police officer on Sunday night, according to a news release from Bolingbrook Police.
Zarate has also been charged with two counts of aggravated battery with a firearm and aggravated discharge of a firearm. He is being held at the Will County Adult Detention Facility on a $5 million bond.
Zarate fired multiple shots at an officer on Sunday, hitting him twice, according to police.

Bolingbrook Police first responded to a complaint of theft at 6:14 p.m. on Sunday at a business in the 100 block of South Bolingbrook Drive. The suspect, now identified as Zarate, fled before officers arrived, and wasn't immediately found, police said.
Then, at 7:48 p.m., police responded to the same business for the report of shots fired. Police said it was found that Zarate had fired multiple shots at the business.

Zarate was then located at his home in the 100 block of West Briarcliff Road, police said. The officer made contact with Zarate, who fired multiple shots, hitting the officer twice. Zarate then barricaded himself in the home, according to officials.
After a search warrant for the home was signed, police took Zarate into custody early Monday without incident, according to police.
The police officer who was shot was released from the hospital on Tuesday afternoon, police said. The officer has worked in law enforcement for 12 years, and at the Bolingbrook department for three years. He will continue his recovery at home, police said.
The ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Illinois State Police and the Will County State's Attorney's Office.
