B.J. Ward to Give New Kindergartners a Head Start

Children will learn about Guided Reading groups, teacher-taught physical education, and a variety of other curriculum-related activities.

Incoming kindergarten students at B.J. Ward will have an opportunity to “learn the ropes” without older students around during a three-day Summer Bridge program Aug. 5-7 at the Bolingbrook elementary school.

“This is an opportunity for students to get used to their teachers, get used to the building, learn the procedures for drop-off and pickup, and learn about lunchtime procedures,” said Principal Ted Warpinski.

Each day will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Parents are invited to attend during the first portion of the first day when Principal Warpinski and his team will spend some time explaining school policies and procedures and taking them on a tour of the building.

The children will learn about Guided Reading groups, teacher-taught physical education, and a variety of other curriculum-related activities. They will do some art projects, go through the cafeteria line, have an opportunity to visit the Fountaindale Library bookmobile and learn where to put their backpacks and personal belongings.

“We want to give our new kindergarten students a head start so they feel more comfortable on that first day of school,” Warpinski said. “It’s important for them to get used to the building layout and their classroom teacher.”

RSVPs to the school (630-972-9200) are preferred but not necessary.
