Bolingbrook Honors K-9 Johan For Nine Years Of Service

BOLINGBROOK, IL — The Bolingbrook Village Board and Bolingbrook Police Department honored K-9 Johan for his nine years of service at Tuesday's Village Board meeting.

Chief Mike Rompa said Johan was born in Holland, and his handler is Sergeant Jason O'Hara. He started serving the department in 2014.

"[Johan] served us for just over nine years, until his retirement on June 13," Rompa said.

"During his career, he was deployed 832 times," Rompa added. Johan was responsible for locating and seizing over 266 pounds of marijuana, 61 marijuana plants, 1,175 grams of cocaine, 1,894 grams of heroin, 76 grams of MDMA, 6 grams of methamphetamine, and $674,000 linked to illegal narcotics charges.

"These finds by K-9 Johan accounted for 209 total arrests," Rompa said.
