Bolingbrook Killer Sentenced For 2016 Shooting

BOLINGBROOK, IL — Kevin Jerel Bailey has spent the past three-plus years living inside the Will County Adult Detention Facility, where he was being held on first-degree murder charges for taking the life of 21-year-old Juantrelle Quarles. Quarles died in Bolingbrook on Feb. 6, 2016.

Now 25, Bailey has taken responsibility for his crimes. He pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of second-degree murder and a felony charge of aggravated battery involving a gun.

On Friday, Will County Circuit Judge David Carlson accepted the plea agreement between the defendant and the Will County State's Attorney's Office. Bailey was sentenced to 16 years of imprisonment on the second-degree murder charge and he got a sentence of six years incarceration for the aggravated battery offense.

Bailey will be given credit for 1,139 days of time served while in custody awaiting trial, court records indicate.

In 2016, Patch reported that Kevin Bailey was arrested by the Bolingbrook Police Department about two weeks after Quarles' murder. The homicide victim had been part of a group of people who had gathered outside a house in Bolingbrook on Cypress Drive following a funeral service held in Summit. Not only was Quarles killed by multiple gunshots, but another young man was also critically injured at the time.

At the time of the slaying, Bailey also resided in Bolingbrook, in the 500 block of Sundance Drive, jail records show.
