Bolingbrook Cop Shot, Suspect Surrounded By Huge Police Presence: PD

BOLINGBROOK, IL — Bolingbrook police announced that one of their officers was shot Sunday night, and the suspect is now surrounded as he's hiding inside a house.

Bolingbrook police say that officers responded around 6:15 p.m. to a complaint of a theft at a business around in the 100 block of South Bolingbrook Drive, but the thief fled before officers arrived and was not immediately found.

Later, at approximately 7:48 p.m, a Bolingbrook police officer found the suspect in the theft complaint in the 100 block of Briarcliff Road.

"Upon the officer making contact with the individual, the offender fired shots at the officer. The officer was struck by the rounds fired by the offender," Bolingbrook police said in a news release.

The officer involved was taken to the hospital and is currently undergoing treatment, the agency noted.

The shooter is believed to be barricaded in a residence contained by police, the agency said. The Illinois State Police are assisting with tactical operations and the investigation.

Meanwhile, Bolingbrook village trustee Michael Carpanzano posted on Facebook the following message: "Most importantly, give all public safety professionals space to do their jobs. Do not go near the area. An official statement and update will be released via Brook Police News as soon as it is available. And as always, say an extra prayer for our Bolingbrook Police Department."
