Bolingbrook Teachers to Share Expertise with Other Educators

The teachers will join other educators Oct. 17 at the Illinois Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages Fall Conference in Tinley Park.

Four Bolingbrook High School teachers will be among those presenting at the Oct. 17 Illinois Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages Fall Conference in Tinley Park, according to a release from Valley View School District 365U.

The topic of a presentation by Angie Behm and Kelsey Fletcher-Broucek is “Supporting Authentic Language With Engaging Tech Tools.” Session attendees will learn how to incorporate a variety of technology tools to engage and motivate students in creative and authentic language use. Successful teacher-created activities (for various levels) used with TodaysMeet, Voicethread, Kahoot, Google Docs and more will be presented and shared.

Nancy Domínguez and Gabriela Perez will present on “Student-driven Curriculum to Engage Low-level Heritage Speakers.” The session will focus on research conducted to meet the needs of heritage speakers at the university level, and the lack of attention to the development of curriculum for these students at the high school level. An even greater challenge is to engage low-level heritage speakers that lack confidence and motivation to maintain their language and culture. The goal is to present student driven curriculum for the low-level heritage classroom.
