Community Shred Event Planned Saturday At Brooks Middle School

Residents can dispose of up to two boxes of documents per car.

BOLINGBROOK, IL — Several state representatives and senators will hold a community shred event at Brooks Middle School in Bolingbrook on Saturday.

The event, hosted by state reps. Dagmara Avelar and Natalie Manley and state senators Meg Loughran Cappel and Rachel Ventura, will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. at the school, 350 Blair Lane.

According to a release from Avelar's office, the event promotes information security and combats identity theft.

“Protecting sensitive information is more important than ever, especially now,” Avelar said in a release. “Securely disposing of papers containing data that thieves can use to compromise identities or gain illicit access to accounts or assets is one of the best ways there is to protect yourself and your family.”

Residents can dispose of up to two boxes of documents per car, and staples and paperclips should be removed prior to arriving. No electronics or medical equipment can be recycled at the event, and boxes may not be left at the site.
