Five Valley View Students to Receive Kiwanis Character Recognition Awards

Five Valley View School District 365U students have been selected to receive the Kiwanis Club of Bolingbrook/Romeoville Character Recognition Award.

Wood View Elementary School’s Sean Cantu, Margret Bozarth of Brooks Middle School and Mark Gaskins of Bolingbrook High School were honored at Tuesday night’s Bolingbrook Village Board meeting.

Romeoville High School’s Jessica Bain and Michael Sarna from R.C. Hill Elementary School will be honored at the Feb. 18 Romeoville Village Board meeting.

Sarna, a 1st grader, was nominated because “he embodies what an enthusiastic, persistent, caring and responsible learner should be. He always strives to do his personal best but also works with others to make them better friends and students.”

Bain, Vice President of the RHS Best Buddies Chapter and an aide at RHS, is a “team player” who “lives to serve others.”

Cantu, a 1st grader, “has been a great example” in the classroom. “Sean is respectful and polite to teachers and his peers. He has really shown good things happen to people who make good choices.”

Bozarth, a 7th grader, “steps forward to reach out to students who may need assistance. She can be relied upon to react respectfully and responsibly to address all topics in class and guide other students…”

Gaskins, a member of the BHS baseball team, “demonstrates the kind of leadership qualities that all coaches desire in a player, and is a motivator for players both on and off the field. Mark is always striving to do the right thing.”
